Coach Jim Martin
Jim Martin has been the head coach at Providence School for 26 years and is entering his 32nd year of coaching overall. During his tenure, Coach Martin has won four FHSAA State Championships (2010, 2013, 2015, 2026) and has led his teams to nine State Final Four appearances. Since 2010, four of his teams have been nationally ranked in the Top 25. He holds an impressive career record of 670 wins and 135 losses. Coach Martin has been honored as the FABC Coach of the Year four times and the Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year five times. In 2024, he received the prestigious John Wooden Legacy Award, recognizing his long, distinguished career and impact on the game. Coach Connor Sebastian
Connor Sebastian is a former Division I college basketball coach who has recently returned to the Jacksonville area, where he now works full-time with Above Basketball Academy. In addition to his role at Above, Connor serves as a College Basketball Recruiting Consultant with IMG Academy. Connor began his Division I coaching career at Virginia Military Institute (VMI), where he was one of the youngest full-time staff members in the country. During his tenure, he played an integral role in multiple areas of the program, including game film breakdown, player development, Florida high school recruiting, and team logistics. Month #1 Introduction
Finishing in basketball is the ability to score effectively around the rim, even when facing defenders, contact, or difficult angles. A strong finisher uses good footwork, body control, timing, and touch to convert opportunities into points. Developing different finishing techniques—such as layups, floaters, and finishes with either hand—helps players become more confident and unpredictable near the basket.
